Stories are among the most powerful tool we have to effect the way people think and act. When an organization or individual tells the right story the right way, they can move people to powerful action.
Those stories are rarely laden with facts and figures.
You can show a graph of mortality rates, and that will be meaningful to some.
You can tell people that X% of people will become ill or die from Y disease in a given region. That’s more powerful.
But when you tell a story about a child who lives in Chicago, plays games not unlike the games played by children you know, and then can’t play anymore because she gets asthma, and watches her brother be hospitalized by asthma that will indirectly kill x% of the kids in her neighborhood, you are striking an emotional chord.
Stories trigger emotional and intellectual responses. They don’t have to be about dying children, they just have to be about something and someone that will matter to the listener and will move them to act in the direction that will make a difference for your cause and your organization.
Laura can help you find the stories in your work that will matter, the stories that will appeal to your audience. She will help you craft them and learn how to tell them in a compelling manner, so you can go about the business of changing the world.
